The Concept of Myself

The very idea you have of yourself limits you. You have been forming this idea (ego) since the day you were born. External and internal circumstances began it’s formation and, in time, reinforced it. Your belief in the truth of it, however, is it’s greatest reinforcer.  An unshakable belief in something is called “faith”, and you have this faith about what you are. Yet, look at it. Just think about it. All you believe you are is a concept. That concept has absolutely no foundation in reality. And, when you fully realize this, you also realize that you have absolutely no idea what you really are!

Notes to myself while reading “I Am That”, pg 441, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.
